    Humidifier problems
A humidifier (honeywell) was installed on my furnace a few years ago, but doesn't seem to work correctly. The following problem continues to occur: I can set the humidistat at its lowest functioning level (10) and there is still too much humidity in the house when it gets cold. I live in North Dakota. What could be the problem? Could the humidistat or solenoid not be working properly? In my opinion it seems like the humidifier is either on or off with no real adjustment, but I'm not sure.

    Thanks,

    Gregg

When was the last time you changed the pad in the unit/
When was the last time you serviced the unit.

The above is probably your problem.

I change the pad before winter every year. I'm not aware of anything else that needs to be taken care of on the humidifier.

If the water valve is not stuck on the it would have to be the humidistat out of calibration.

Test by removing/disconnecting the humidistat out of the circuit so the humidifier will not run. Then see what happens to the level of humidity.

How does one go about calibrating a humidistat, or does that mean I simply buy a new one? I believe the valve is working, because it does shut off when the furnace is not heating.

    Thanks,
