We are remodeling our bahtroom and have found a shower base that has a single threshold. The base is about 60x34" What we wanted to do is inclose about 18inches of the open threshold. Is there a way to frame around part of the shower base to make this happen?

I drew a picture. Hopefully it will help. The shower base is a single threshold opening. The green lines represent the sides I know are good to go. The Red line is what I was thinking for a glass door. I think that should work. What my question is can I put a wall right next to the threshold side and tile that wall just like the other 3 walls. Even though the trehold does not have that little lip / base that goes behind the tile. So where the arrorow points can I tile that wall and make it look like the 3 green walls.

Assuming that your shower base is really like this. You can probably do that but you will have to use a couple of screws into the threshold. Why would you want to do that anyway?

Actually the threshold would be in front of that short wall.. not over it.

We wanted to do this because there is a counter top that will go next to it and we would perfer it but up to a wall and not glass.

You mean like this? You would have to really make a good seal between wall and step (threshold). But what would you attach the shower door to?

I understand why you want to do what you plan but it just isn't the greatest plan. The other three walls of that shower base have a lip the rides up under the tile so it will never leak. There will be no lip under your 18" wall. I read that you know about the lip but you need to find a method to make your own water proof (forever) lip. I also think you need to consider the thickness of your threshold, it is thinner than dimensional lumber and tile. I am not telling you that you can't do this but just want you to be able to see other possible issues.

Yes like that and I would attach the shower door to the 2 walls.

One the next tread. Yes I have been thinking of ways to make a never leak lip. Have got a full prove one but one of the shower bases we found the treashold has about a 1 inch raised bump. So if we where to use that contour I think we may be able to make it work. Still have to finalize the size of that short wall to get a nice size shower door and things like that but so for so good.

Any other ideas id be happy to listen.

No we are looking at a door that would swing open.

But walls don't line up. Shower door has to be on top of threshold.
