    You can use the quadratic formula to solve this problem. It should be in your textbook.

    For this you need to identify the "a", "b", and "c" after an equation is set = to 0.

    The a is the number located before the x squared.
    The b is the number located before the x.
    The c is always the number by itself (the constant).

    Thus a=1, b=-2, and c=-1. Now, use these values and plug them into the quadratic formula to find your two solutions.
