Try to carefully push in, then pull out and turn the key. Do not break the key off, be careful, if you break the key off, you'll have to replace the entire ignition there, and you don't want to do that.
If your car is still under warranty, make an appointment and take it in to the dealer. They have released a technical service bulletin, Bulletin No.: 06-07-30-004C, that addresses this condition as well as other various concerns with shifter and/or ignition key, including but not limited to:
^ The shifter is hard to move or binds.
^ They cannot remove the ignition key.
^ It takes high effort to rotate the key.
They will need to verify that the concern on your vehicle matches the criteria for this bulletin and also verify that repair attempts haven't already been done.
Go to GM and make them fix it; they have a 3 year/100,000 mile warranty on an '06
