Knowledge of criminal activity
I have knowledge of someone who has committed wire fraud, securities fraud, mortgage fraud and is guilty of unreported income as well. He continues to work trying to get investors for a project that he knows is dead in the water. Should I report him and how do I go about doing this? I do not have any money invested with him but I have proof of the offenses I have mentioned.

You need a personal attorney to review your concerns.

    Hello lisa:

You can't snitch on everybody you see doing bad. Mind your own business.

Normally I would agree with excon. But, if I saw someone inside of excons garage stealing his uhhhh... pressure washer. I would tell him, if I could'nt find him I would call the cops. If someone were to take my money and lie to me knowing they were ripping me off, I could be ruined. I would really appreciate it if some could call the cops on this weasel before he steals another honest persons earned money. If I knew of a guy who burned down empty homes for fun, I would report it because it's just not right. This guy you know Lisa seems just as bad to me. Police stations have units that specifically deal with these matters, I would call them and ask what to do.

    Hello Greg:

I too, normally agree with your fine advice. And, I'll bet after we look into this, we might find some common ground here as well.

Certainly, if I saw someone in your garage ripping you off, I'd call the cops. I don't like crooks either.

However, when you examine the post, I think you'll see that this isn't some good citizen who just happened upon a crime. Nope, this sounds like someone who has an axe to grind, and wants to cause somebody some trouble.

Mortgage fraud and securities fraud are not as easy to detect as a guy in your garage who doesn't belong there is. Indeed, I know a lot about these things, and I'm not certain that I could identify these crimes simply by casual observation. Certainly, one would be curious as to how lisa knows some project is bound to fail, or how she knows the intimate details of his tax return.

Nope, this sounds like sour grapes to me or someone trying to get even - not a good neighbor.

excon, sometimes trouble finds the criminal. Why blame the messenger? I don't get the why people dog someone for doing the right thing. I was raised to believe to tell the truth and do the right thing. Why is stopping bad things from further happening looked at as not the right thing to do anymore?
he continues to work trying to get investors for a project that he knows is dead in the water.
And the fact that she has proof is what made me throw my cape on so quickly and turn into the "Dark Avenger" LOL, but you have a point. With out further information it seems very likely that this has been motivated by personal Vendetta. I'm also not a big fan of only doing the right thing when ulterior motives are involved. I hope Lisa comes back and clarifies this for us.

Well of course your opinoin that a project is dead, and another persons idea of the project being dead is sometimes varoius things.

But you can of course report someone to the proper trade commission and so on if there is fraud going on.

I have been working on a project to develop some property for 10 years, it may never get done?? But it does not mean I am not trying to get it done. Nohting illegal going on, just have not got the right investors yet.

The FBI are most interested in this type of activity. I suggest you give them a call before more people lose more money and possibly their life savings to this con man. They have special units that handle this. And no, you are not snitching in my eyes, you are aware of a nasty situation that will result in a lot of innocent people losing their money in these hard times. At least you can rest at night knowing that you saved possibly a lot of people a lot of unnecessary headaches and heartaches. I would be upset if I was taken by some con man like that and lost a lot of money.

If you happen to be working for this individual, I would suggest you contact the authorities before they contact you assuming that you are in on the illegal activity also. He's not paying you to keep quiet as he probably thinks you haven't the faintest clue of just how clever he is. This is a serious situation you are in right now. Gather up all your documents and call the FBI and talk it over with them.
