Hip Pain During Sex Triggered Only During Arousal
Recently when I'm having sex with my boyfriend and I'm on top, leaning forward, as I get aroused, I get a severe pain in my outer hip area (usually my left side). It's a shooting pain that can speed all the way down to my outer ankle. It almost feels like my muscles are being moved out of place. Relaxing and trying to calm down relieves the pain, but most recently it was so debilitating. It took a lot longer to normalize than normal. It's sharp but dull, heavy, and intense. It only seems to be triggered as I get aroused and everything is tensed. It seems nerve related because it's limited to one side and shoots down. Is anyone familiar with this and have any suggestions?

I think you may be pinching a nerve, depending on how you're moving. I would go seek a doctor. Have you been in any type of car accident? Or any type of accident? My guess is your back is pinching a nerve... which may explain a pain shoot to your ankle. Check it out, let us know any updates!

Yes, you should see a physician. Try letting your left leg/foot rest on the floor while you are on top.

Just to go in a different direction from the fine answers above, is there a chance you have arthritis in your left hip from an injury or from sports?

I was a golfer, and I had a difficult time with my hips as I approached forty years old. Quite painful in some sexual positions. :(

Also, the position you assume may cause a pinched nerve, the sciatica to be specific, very painful. It may snap back into position after the pressure is off.

Okay, I'd agree with Choux here. I'd say you have a trapped/pinced sciatic nerve seee this, and show your doctor which dermotome is hurting I'd say without looking its around s2/3Dermatomic area - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Thanks everyone!

I'm actually in my twenties, and I haven't been in a major car accidents. So I can safely exclude arthritis. I don't know enough about sciatica. I don't have the common health problems that sciatic sufferers face, though. For a brief moment, a physician suspected something I can't remember off the top of my head now. I know it's also nerve-related but that was excluded. I do have back problems, even at a young age. My spine is long for my size and is actually over-arched. I don't know if that has something to do with it. I also have really bad leg pains that alternate, so I suspect it's nerve-related. After having over $1,000 worth of tests, the physician eliminated a lot of the standard possibilities.

I'm starting to suspect that it's a pinched nerve, too. I haven't managed to find what I would consider a competent physician, but I will keep trying. Would I go and visit a specialist? If so, what is the doctor's title?

It sounds exactly like my symptoms as well. Did you get to the bottom of this?
