Getting out of leasing contract for safety reasons
I signed a lease for the apartment that I am living in now in Novemer of 2007. Recently two people that spent the night at my house on two different occasions got their tires slashed. Ten other people living on street got their tires slashed as well, and it is even happening to cars in the back parking lot behind the apartment buildings. I feel very threatened by this situation because it's getting a lot worse, and I don't want anything happening to me or my car next. I talked to a cop, and he told me that the best advice he could give me is to move. I was just wondering if it is possible to get out of a lease because of safety purposes because police reports have been filed for the last two occasions with my friends, and I don't want anything worse to happen.

    Thanks.

Not unless the apartment management has done something to cause this, or unless they fail to do what a normal apartment owner in that situation would have done.

If they have a lot of burned out parking area lights, but in general no. What happens you ask the landlord, he laughs at you or just says no. you have to move and then they sue you and you have to fight it in court.

So there is no way to tell for sure, until you end up in court and see what the judge things, but over all, in general, most of the time, no this is not a reason.
