Hi,

I just had a new pressure switch installed for a deep well pump. It's not like the old one, though because it doesn't have a lever to turn the pump on. Even if the power is off the contacts on it don't move. When the power is on, it seems that the pump is on all the time, because it doesn't get to pressure and then click off. To be on the safe side, I turn the power off (breaker) when I'm not using water. Is it possible that the well guy installed the wrong type of switch?

It's not supposed to cut off if it doesn't get to cut off pressure. However, the installer should have made sure it was working properly before he left. I'd call him and tell him to come fix the switch he installed.

Apparently, according the pump man, the pump is either blocked or defective, because the pressure only goes to 35. We have to wait until the Spring when the ground can be dug, to find out. Are you saying that the pressure switch could have been adjusted to cut off at 35?

Is there more to this story?
If you have a deep well and the pump is defective you aren't going to dig. You are going to pull it out and replace it.

Is there something you aren't telling us?

The access to the well cap is 2 feet underground.

Are you located some where that the ground is frozen so harh to prevent that kind of digging?

Switches can generally be adjusted to cut off at 35#. However, I would not think your pump man would have done that as it is somewhat on the low side.
