I'm looking at buying a festool saw from america which runs on 120v but tools and electrical equipment in austraila run on 240v. Is there anything I can do to make it work and if so is it going to be a hassle??

What saw? Give us a link? A 30 inch cut log saw?

Festool is a German brand. Don't they offer a 240v/50hz version?

I looked at the parts breakdown for one of their saws online and you can definitely see 120 V and 240V part numbers, so I'd suggest finding a distributer that stocks the 240 volt version.

You might have to use the 2000 or 3000 W model because of the HP rating. They chose a Watts rather than VA rating, so you cannot be sure. If it has slow-start the Watt and VA ratings might work out to be the same. You can always get a transformer rated aboout 1.5x the rating of the tool and definitely be safe.

I would look for a 240 Volt Saw, they should have in Australia. Wouldn't do any converting.
