plug it in your calculator. Graph it.
now, on the x-axis, look between -1 and 1.
now, on the y-axis, see how far (up and down) your graph goes. That's your RANGE.
It would appear that the domain in this case is over the interval [-2,1].
The range is what you get upon subbing in those values.
