Email address not showing in roaming profile

I have now added a new profile to replace a corrupted user account profile.
I have named the old account ZZZ name name and have altered all the addresses. I have created a brand new one in its place. This is all good, everything works.
However every user in the office still only gets his old address/profile when selecting from the internal address book. So he is not getting internal correspondence but all external is arriving okay. If an internal mail is sent to his address address typed in full it works. But using the address book it gets the details as displayed before we made any changes. It does not show ZZZ name name just the old name name.
I am new to this roaming profile nonsense and with luck it will be history in a few months but how do I get this new name visible to all staff.
I am confident enough to delete the old user account (ZZZ) once this has been fixed.
I am sure it is just a local synchronizing issue but I have reached a road block.
