    Hello Folks

    (Using windows 2000 server)

    I have now added a new profile to replace a corrupted user account profile.

    I have named the old account ZZZ name name and have altered all the addresses. I have created a brand new one in its place. This is all good, everything works.

    However every user in the office still only gets his old address/profile when selecting from the internal address book. So he is not getting internal correspondence but all external is arriving okay. If an internal mail is sent to his address address typed in full it works. But using the address book it gets the details as displayed before we made any changes. It does not show ZZZ name name just the old name name.

    I am new to this roaming profile nonsense and with luck it will be history in a few months but how do I get this new name visible to all staff.

    I am confident enough to delete the old user account (ZZZ) once this has been fixed.

    I am sure it is just a local synchronizing issue but I have reached a road block.

    You are getting External emails because of the SMTP addresses.

    A few questions to you: 1) Are you using Exchange Cache Mode on the PC's?
    2) Is Auto-Complete turned on?

    A1) If you are synchronizing emails to OST files locally, you are also synchronizing the Global Address List (GAL). This can take some time for updates and is controlled by synchronization schedule set in your Offline Address Book. You may have to force a synchronization or rebuild of the Offline Address Book.

    A2) If users have Auto-Complete turned on in Outlook, recently used email addresses are cached locally in the Exchange Profile. When you type the first three letters of an email address, a list pops up of your Most Recently Used (MRU) email addresses. This list is not updated automatically with the GAL. If the user selects one of these addresses from their MRU, it will be incorrect. This happens when mailboxes are transferred from one Exchange Server to another or the account is deleted and created new. Even though the Display Names, sn, GivenName, mi, and SMTP addresses are the same, the underlying GUID is different. This is what counts.

    What to do:

    You can use a utility from the Exchange Tools called Exprofre.exe. This is the Exchange Profile Update Tool. Here is a synopsis from the documentation of what it will do:

    Exprofre.exe uses information from Microsoft Active Directory® directory services and the current default Outlook profiles to perform the following steps:
    1. Backs up the default profile.
    2. Looks for an X.500 e-mail address, which indicates that the mailbox has been moved.
    3. Updates the default profile with the new user and server properties.
    4. Resets the offline address book.
    5. If the version of Outlook is earlier than Outlook 2003, deletes or renames the offline cache (.ost) file.
    6. Deletes or renames the Favorites (.fav or .xml) file.
    Note
    Exprofre.exe updates only the default profile. Exprofre.exe does not create new profiles; it only modifies existing profiles.
