    processor compatibility with motherboard
I have a Gigabyte GA-8SIML motherboard and I am unsure of what processors I would be able to use, as the current intel celeron 2.5GHz isn't enough, I would like to know if duo core processors would be compatible, at the moment I am thinking of upgrading to just a intel duo 1.8GHz or a celeron 3.2GHz, if both are comptable which one would be the best?

Edit: other system specs; 768mb DDR 333mhz ram
    Geforce 6200 256mb graphics

Also can the PCI slots be used for graphics cards?

This board takes a Socket 478 cpu. Celeron Ds are also available for Socket 478 and are the only CPUs still made for the socket. They use a quad-pumped 133 MHz bus giving a 533 MT/s FSB. They are available with 256 KB L2 Cache and are built on the 90 nm manufacturing process, using the Prescott core.

That doesn't quite help me out, as I don't understand what the MT/s FSB means and I don't know what a prescott core is, thanks anyway il have a look round Google at the specs and prices of celeron D's

As I posted a few posts and the questions are all over the place I decided to post a list of the questions to make it easier
    1. can pci slots be used for graphics card?
2.are Celeron E dual core processors compatible with my motherboard
    3. which of the 2 Celeron D processors is better, the 3.2GHz at 533mhz or a 2ghz at 800mhz

Yes you can use pci for video cards, but it would be better to use the agp or pci express slots. Also, the cpu you listed above is the wrong socket, you listed a 775. Becareful

Thanks, didn't notice the socket, didn't come across any celerons with a 478 either.

Edit;nope can't find any processors with a 478 socket on a particular site, il have a look around or just buy new motherboard, probably will mean new ram aswel which I haven't got money for, thanks anyway

    DDR SDRAM, DDR II SDRAM
    RAM Installed ( Max )
    0 MB / 2 GB (max)
    Supported RAM Speed
    PC2100, PC2700, PC2-3200, PC2-4300, PC2-5300
Does that pc2100 etc etc mean I wouldn't be able to use a normal ram card like mine are, DDR 333mhz ?

    So which is better 1.8Ghz at 800mhz or a 3.2GHz at 533mhz?
