Hi. I have just had temporary crowns fitted to my four front upper teeth. Because there was a mess with the first procedure of preparing my teeth for the crowns, I had to undergo two procedures, and two lots of injections to numb the site in the same day. :mad: I was wondering if it is normal to have a swollen and tender nose after this kind of procedure? Mine is still swollen and the temporaries were fitted 3 days ago already. :confused: My gums also bled very badly, but they seem to be healing okay now. Thank you.

I've never known anyone to have swelling of the nose after crown preps of the front teeth. Perhaps you should call your dentist and ask them if they'd like to see you. Rinsing with some warm salt water will help with the bleeding. Be sure you brush around your temporary crowns to keep the gums healthy.

Thank you Flossie. I will definitely call my dentist. I can't wait to have my permanent crowns fitted, but if I am going to swell all over again its going to detract from my excitement about my new smile :p

Sorry - one more question to ask - with porcelain fused to metal crowns, will the metal always show at the gum line?

Ideally, front crowns should be all porcelain ("Procera" type) as they give the teeth a more natural appearance.

If you are having porcelain fused to metal then be sure you always brush your front teeth down from the gums. Avoid scrubbing or brushing up and down or in circles to prevent the gum eventually being pushed away from the tooth. This will prevent the gums from receding and the metal margins of the crowns showing.
