    Filed Taxes Wrong Electronically
I Filed My Tax Returns Wrong, I Filed Married Jointly Instead Of Married Separate, And It Was Done Electronically Online And Submitted. So How Do I Change It, Because Me And My Wife Are Filing Separate, But I Already Filed Jointly Without Including Her Income. Help

    Tillmanda:

You, my firend, have a real problem. Once a return is filed electronically, it cannot be recalled, it can only be amended.

Unfortunately. The decision to file Married Filing Jointly cannot be revoked. When you filed electronically, the tax software should have asked for your wife's authorization to file (which should have tipped you off that there was a problem). You either answered incorrectly in your wife's stead, or the software is poorly designed.

You can call the IRS and explain the problem, but I do not think it would do any good. My advice is that you convince your wife to file jointly and amend the return using Form 1040X to add your wife's income and deductions.
