I see Troll Alerts, and I wonder what exactly is a troll? Is it more than just someone practicing creative writing skills?

A troll is someone on the internet who purposely instigates trouble in order to irritate people. Like someone, for example, saying "I hate the Dallas Cowboys", well you know that's going to make the Cowboys lovers mad.

Its not usually a simple subject like football they attack. Religion is a big one sometimes.

I understand a troll to be one who is deliberately inflammatory, derisive, insulting, rude, and is inaccurate in postings (not wanting to learn either).
That is my idea, anyway.

The two trolls I saw exposed didn't write anything inflammatory or irritating...

Usually a troll will string along a thread to see how many irritated people will respond. A high number of responses is a badge of honour for them. Remember: what they write is all made up.

Oh, I have seen that... constantly raising objections to the answers and comments experts make... pretty boring stuff.

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

A Troll? Oh... Its far more than someone's creative writing skills! Be afraid Choux, its my mother in law! If you have a troll do not tell it anything personal! It will use it against you one day and hold it in a journal.
