Hi all, I was given a Bolens riding mower with a 15 HP Briggs engine on it, the mower had been sitting a while outdoors so I changed the oil, the fuel filter, and cleaned the carb and replaced the battery, when I started it up it would run and then stop and run and then stop. Then it ran for 10 minutes but was blowing white smoke and oil out the exhaust. I think I have blow by but not sure so I am asking the question would I have to rebuild the engine?

You may have a stuck valve that isn't closing completely. Can you do a compression check?

It is getting compression, if it is a valve, does anybody have the torque specs for the valves?

Torque specs or gap? I torque a head but gap a valve.

Are you by chance getting oil in the air cleaner housing, if so, replace the breather assembly.

The gap for the valve and then the torque specs for the head bolts since I need to remove the head to clean the valves and reinstall it.
