Rights after a Sheriff's Sale in Illinois
My house was sold at a Sherriff's Sale and I have received notice from the sheriff with the date I need to be out of the house. I attempted to work out a plan with the bank, they asked me for document and $6000 which I provided. At the last minute they decided not to work out a plan and did not return the $6000. Is this legal? Also, I was told that if I came up with more money which I have they would reinstate my loan or that I can have someone purchase it back from the bank. I have been trying to communicate with the bank for about a month with no luck (they wouldn't reply or return my calls). Any suggestions. I have 2 weeks before I need to be out.

    Hello m:

I think the date has come and gone for you. I don't know how the bank can reinstate your loan when somebody else owns the house. What are they going to tell him?

Nope. You're bank screwed you when they took your $6K and then rebuffed your offer. Apparently, they're still trying to screw you by lying to you.

Did someone actually buy the house or did the bank? Do you have any documentation about the offer and the $6K payment.

I would consult an attorney immediately to protect your rights.

The bank bought the house back, and all I have is copies of the cashier's check that I provided the bank.

Well you need an attorney. But the bank's acceptance of that check does indicate an agreement was in place.
