My gas furnace will not turn on so I turn the power switch off then on the pilot ignites but the fan will not kick on and then the unit turns off after a few minutes

It would help to know which brand of furnace you are inquiring about so that those most able to answer your question can help you the best. Also, does the fan ever turn on?

If you have an electronic thermostat, it may need batteries.
