    Loud crackling sound in ceiling.
I have an older home, 1960. There are often crackling sounds coming from the joists holding up the ceiling. It seems to be somewhat related to temperature variations when the heater turns on. It's lucky for me that I see no cracks in the drywall to support that this is from settling. I would expect some of this in an older home, but this is kind of ridiculous how consistent the crackling is. It's all over the house. Does anyone have any ideas about the best way to attempt a fix. I wish I could be more specific. Thanks

Do you have forced hot air heating or hot water? Both systems can cause crackling from heat expansionand contraction. Have you checked you insulation in the attic? Most homes build in the 60s had little or no insulation but you can add up to 19" without too uch expense.
