mazzie, here are the official specs for Windows XP Home Edition,as suggested by Microsoft:

Mazzie,if you can, upgrade your memory to 512mb.In other words, add "another stick" of 256mb to your motherboard.XP will behave slow,if you don't,as you store more progs on your hard drive, and memory,is,well, asked to "remember" them.A 10gig hard drive is okey for now,but don't try and download your entire music collection :D Today, you really need a minimum of between 80-100 gig of hard drive space for lots of media,or storage. If you plan just to use your PC for office and word, you won't need to upgrade your hard drive.
Hi, Mazzie,
I also use Win98SE and like it, cause it runs older programs which 2000 and XP will not; such as Picture It 99, great image/photo program.
I don't see any reason to upgrade, if you like your computer the way it is. If you do the Regular Maintenance on 98/98SE, it should keep running very well.
I do wish you the best.
PS; I do highly suggest using a great, free program that will help keep your hard drive cleaned of temp folders, junk files, cookies you don't want, history, URL's, and some Registry entries not needed. All these files take up space, sometimes a Lot of space.
You can get it at:
http://www.ccleaner.com
Ccleaner after downloaded/installed, will, with just 2 clicks, keep these files from building up. It works great with 98.
I upgraded K6 to XP including a bump to 512M. I was not happy with the performance and replaced the machine after about 6 months.Quote:

I must say that there are a number of reasons to upgrade to XP. It is clearly the most stable version of Windows yet. But you should have the hardware to run it. And you should have a need for the extra features.
