Fiberglass shower stall, new shower set
We just bought a new shower set for our bathroom but found out we have a problem. It's a fiberglass, 1-piece tub/shower and the hole where the valve comes out is too small to remove the old one. We have two bathrooms and the other tub/shower is back-to-back with the one we're trying to change. This rules out cutting a hole in drywall to get to the old valve. Can we cut a bigger hole in the fibergalss to remove the old valve, install the new and then try to put the piece we cut out of the fiberglass back in (repair the fiberglass)?? I'm totally confused on what to do with this... any suggestions?

Yup.. I have good suggestion. Home depot or Lowe's sells a "goof plate" or cover plate for similar situation. It is chrome.. oblong.. about 11 inches wide x 7 inches tall... that should do it for you... Symmons makes one. It actually looks quite nice when you are done.

No need to repair fiberglass. Also, I suggest a rotozip tool to cut the fiberglass... super easy to use.
Use a mini tubing cutter to cut copper pipe.

Let me know if you need more info.

Will this plate work with my new valve? The one I bought has the handle you rotate counter-clockwise to adjust the temperature.
