    Filing jointly with dead spouse
My husband died in November of 2007, but to maximize my return I was instructed to file jointly. Is the IRS going to issue a check to both of our names? If so how do I cash such a check. I checked with a check cashing place and they said they would not accept his death certificate and my id to cash the check.

They were correct, if he was alive just one day in the year, you file jointly, which gives you a better tax rate. Assuming you had a joint account and still have it, you merely put it in that account. Or deposit it in a bank, have a copy of his death certficate with you.
