    Belly Infection? /Tounge Piercing Info
I got my belly button peirced a month ago, and I was washing it well (provon lotion soap), and rinsing with salt water (h2ocean).But recently, A lot of puss has been coming out of it, and around the top my skin kind of sticks to it..
    Its not too red though..
    Is it infected?

Also, for me to get my belly button peirced it hurt reallllly bad. I was hyperventalating, but I REALLY wanted it, so I still got it done. And I LOVE it.

But I'm wondering if a tongue piercing will hurt like my belly button did?
I have a low pain tolerance.. annnnd I'm pretty healthy, and I know if you take zinc it will help you heal faster.

Alllsssoo, what's a good way to hide tongue piercings..
ANY INFORMATION IS NEEDED. IM THINKING ABOUT GETTING IT DONE IN THE SUMMER.

    Hey! :)

First of all, personally... I would not get your tongue pierced at all! I think if you suffered that much from your belly piercing, your tongue would be ten fold the pain!

However if you do decide to go ahead, you can get clear retainer bars. This will try and make it more concealed!

    A few questions hun...

    Going back to your belly...

When did you have it done?
What colour is the puss coming out?
How often do you clean it?
What type of metal is it that you got pierced with?
    Was this your first piercing?

    :)

Your belly button sounds like it is infected. Using soap and sea salt is probably over doing it and causing more damage than good. You are drying out the piercing, that is why it is sticking. Use soap only and move the piecing up and down while cleaning, this will get the soap into the hole to clean. Make sure you rinse it very well.

If you thought getting your belly button pierced hurt... your tongue is worse. Not only just the piercing itself, but it is one of the toughest aftercare. Your tongue will most likely swell and throb for close to a week. It will be extremely hard to eat. And it's really not something you can hide.
Now I've had mine pierced 3 times total (2 at the same time)... but why get it if you have to hide it?

When did you have it done? January 4, 2008

What colour is the puss coming out? Like regular puss? White... ish..

How often do you clean it? 2 times a day with soap, one soak at night. And if I work out I clean after work out.

What type of metal is it that you got pierced with? I have no idea...

Was this your first piercing? I have my ears... and belly.

I have had a lot of mouth surgery too though.. like tonsils, tongue... clipping? (like my tongue was really short so it was making it hard to talk, so they cut the little flap under my tongue to make it longer), I have had 4 teeth removed, and I have had a lot of pain for recovery in my mouth, and I can deal with the recovery, buttt, the NEEDLE, is the part I will hate. That's why I hyperventalated with my belly...

Well a tongue piercing is more difficult than most other piercings. Your tongue is a tough muscle. It takes a lot of force to pierce it.

I would say if you couldn't handle the belly piercing... I wouldn't suggest getting your tongue pierced.

For your navel, signs of infection include severe redness, severe swelling, and a yellow or green discharge that smells bad. If you have any of those symptoms, see a doctor because infection is possible. What a lot of people think is pus, is actually your white blood cells trying to patch the hole that was created in your body. Does it come out clear? The over-production of this substance by your body is caused by someone or something irritating your piercing. Causes of irritation can include overcleaning, overuse of salt water, changing jewelry too often, injury, etc. Put a warm compress on it for 10 minutes twice a day, and take Ibuprofen if any pain or mild swelling should develop.

Since you say you have a low pain tolerance, to be honest with you, it may be a little more uncomfortable to you than it may be to someone with a high pain tolerance. The worst part of a piercing is actually after the act of the piercing; the healing time. That is when it swells, gets red, and is the most uncomfortable. Usually, the piercing itself is not that bad. As far as hiding it, you must keep the surgical steel barbell that was used for piercing in your tongue for 6 weeks. Changing jewelry too often can potentially cause problems, such as irritation or infection. You really can't hide it since you will be talking and eating funny for the first few days, and also, people can tell whether you have a tongue ring or not just by talking to you, even if its healed.

If, for some reason, you aren't supposed to have a tongue ring, don't get one. I don't know what your situation is for having to hide it, but its not worth getting in trouble over.

    Good luck! :)

I know I asked a lot of further questions... so here goes!

It should be beginning to settle now! If the puss is green or yellow it is a sign of infection. Over cleaning can cause problems sometimes, but I think twice is about right. I got pierced with a Titanium bar and which apparently helps it heal but it does make it weep, I wondered if that could be a problem. You should ALWAYS ask what metal you are getting pierced with as you may have an allergy! Were you ear piercings problem free?

    I hope this helps a little! :)

Well my ears have been done for at least 4 years, so the only problem I have now is that if I wear a pair for too long (like a few days) when I take them out, it has like a bump or "bead-like" feeling to it...
No other problems other than that.

That bump sounds like hypertrophic scarring. This is caused by cheap jewelry, playing with it too much, changing jewelry too much, overcleaning, overuse of salt water, etc. Anything that can irritate the piercing can cause hypertrophic scarring.

Except the bump only comes when I wear earings once in a while..
Like right now I don't have them..
But MAYBE next time I wear earings it will be there..
It just changes, like on and off..

I have had my belly peirced for about 7 weeks and it is still red, and sometimes has puss, I was wondering is it infected, or still healing because my peircer said it will take 8 - 10 weeks so I don't know what it is wrong, and sometimes it stings when I move it to far

I have my belly pierced and I've had my tongue pierced for almost a year now. From experience, the belly piercing hurt more for me. My tongue piercing was more pressure than anything from feelin the needle get driven through your tongue, but it wasn't painful to me. The healing process for my tongue was awesome too, and it's one of the fastest piercings to heal so long as you ice it while it's swollen he first week you get it, eat liquidated foods and wash your mouth by brushing and using alcohol free mouthwash after every meal, drink and smoke. I too have a low tolerance for pain, so if you got through getting a belly piercing I think you will be fine. To hide the tonge piercing, I would probably advise getting a clear bar after the first two weeks of having the starter bar. The starter bar is long and silver and you pretty much have to deal with it until the swelling of your tongue goes down. Either a clear of a pink bar should work, or even a retainer. :)
