    Cannot connect with router
I Have a compaq evo n800v that I just got and it has an Ethernet cord running into my router and all of my other computers that go to that router are getting the internet but my laptop isn't. If anyone could shed some light on my problem that would be great thanks :)

    You need to check things.
Are there any lights near (usually at the top) of the ethernet port ?
Is the LAN connection disabled ?
Have you tried a different cable/router port ?

    That should do for starters.

In that case the issue is with the laptop and you need to check the connection there.
Sounds like it might either be simply disabled or might need the driver reinstalling.

Go to your laptop and press control panel and under network and setting select the connection, right click it, select properties and click on Local Area Connection and press properties, select the auto detect and see if it works, or else try plugging in a USB internet card on your laptop, I'm not sure but I'm guessing that either the setting is wrong or your Internet Card is busted.

OK so this is the first time you have connected this machine to the router.
Follow the instructions for Network/LAN settings.

    OK cancel all that.
Open Internet Explorer, cancelling any pop ups you might get.
Tools > Internet Options > Connection Tab.
    Select Never dial a connection.
    LAN settings
check automatically detect and uncheck ALL others.
Click OK all the way out.
restart IE and it should be connected.

If that doesn't get you online, then try this.
Start > Run > Type CMD.
In the black box type IPCONFIG /ALL and then post back the IP address it is returning.
Should be 192.168.x.x (x being a random number)

No worries, that's what we are here for.
Glad I could help and I hope you enjoy the N800.
I have used several and I have been impressed with the machine.
