I am 11.5 weeks pregnant and I have a bicornuate uterus with a severe indentation. At 7.5 weeks, I had a heavy bleed. The bleeding has calmed down for the moment, but I do have episodes of 'old blood'.

The fetus is in the right horn. From looking at the ultrasound pictures the left horn is dark which might indicate presence of a bleed. My question: Can this 'bleed' in the left horn harm the fetus in the right horn.

Please note that this is my second pregnancy. I miscarried at 14 weeks last year.

It really depends on the amount of space in the particular horn the baby is in. If it is larger than the other horn, then you may have a chance that the baby will not be affected by the other side. Are you heart shaped with a small septum at the top or do you have a split that goes down far into the uterus?

To be completely honest with you (I don't want to sound unsympathetic, but I have learned that honesty is far better than sugar coating), while I have heard of pregnancies being successful in these situations, the chances are low. Unfortunately when you have a Bicornuate Uterus with a deep split, typically there is very little room left for a fetus to grow. Many times a woman may reach around 16 weeks or so and then miscarry. I don't think the problem here will be a bleed in the opposite horn, I think it may come down to there not being enough space. Your doctor will be able to advise you of the best for both of your health. Discuss with him/her all the possible outcomes and issues that may arise.
