    Garnishment/disabled wife
 I have a summons for Regular Garnishment, in the state of Georgia. The first file date was 2000 JAN 15, the second file date was 10 JAN 2008. Is there a time limit on the file dates? They have put a lien on my bank account, I have a disabled wife at home and no money. Is there any way I can get this lifted? What do you suggest?

Satisfy the judgement, and they will remove the lien. Call them to cut a deal, or bankruptcy if you are eligible. For that a lawyer is recommended. Do nothing, they will eventually take whatever is in the account, and seek to have the money removed from your paycheck, if they haven't started to already. You had better talk to them fast.

They can only take 25%, of your paycheck, before taxes, but you can cut a deal. They usually can start garnishment within 30 days from the judgement. Your payroll services department can tell you if they have any garnishment orders against you.
