    Sump pump chugging
    Hi,
My sump pump has started to chug and isn't turning off. At first , if I pulled the plug and then plugged it back in, it was OK again. Now, I pull the plug, wait about a minute or two, plug it in and it sounds like it drains all the water and then it starts chugging again. I fear it is going to burn out. It is only about 8 years old. What can I do?

Your sump has a float, do you know how to adjust the float level. Some floats look like an upside down can floating on a rod while others look like a hand grenade on the short electric cable. What do you have?

I'm guessing leaking check valve. The pump pumps the water out and shuts off. All the water in the vertical section of the pipe then flows back down into the crock and the pump comes on again. The pump then starts again. What does chuging mean?

"What does chuging mean?" 1 beer in less than 20 seconds.
