Bathtub faucet has hot water, but shower doesn't.
The house I live in is old but had all the plumbing redone 2 years ago. I turn the bathtub faucet on and adjust the temp. to my preference but as soon as I turn the handle for the shower head to come on, the water is cold. Majority of the hot water is coming out of the faucet and not the shower head. I'm sure this is a simple problem but I have no idea how to fix it or what tools and parts I will need to do so. Please, please help me. I would really love to take a warm shower

So you are saying this is a tub/shower combo with just the one mixing valve, right?

Yes it is a shower/tub combo. There are separate handles for the hot water and for the cold water. To turn the shower on, you have to turn a separate handle in the middle of the hot and cold water handles.?

The two mixing valves are OK but the middle handle diverts the water up to the shower head. Disassemble that handle, its hot water inlet is blocked. You can likley do this repair without shutting done the main but I would just to be safe.
