    Stripping the Membrane
OK guys I'm FINALLY almost 39 weeks which is a lot longer then they expected me to go to.
I was sitting on 3cm for about 3 weeks or so and today she said I was more effaced and almost at 4 cm so she stripped my membranes.
I had this done with my first two but didn't seem to do anything nor did it hurt but today it was very painful and I had A lot of pain in the pelvic area while walking.
I did notice some slightly colored discharge after the procedure but now 7 hours later I went to the bathroom and I'm bleeding bright red with some small clots.
It was enough blood to fill a couple wads of toilet paper.
    Is this normal?
Like I said with my first two I didn't experience any of this when they did the sweeping.
She said it is more likely to work after you have had a vaginal birth, so I'm wondering if I should be concerned or if its normal.
    Thanks guys

You need to contact your doctor on this one. Bright red bleeding always concerns me, and I, as a nurse intern in labor and delivery, prefer to have this discussed directly with the doctor than getting a nurse's opinion.

It very well could be normal for you, but you should have been told to expect this if this is a common normal finding.

Please make a quick call to the doctor's office for the best advice.
