What is a cash assurity bond in a criminal case? What does this mean?

It's a promise to pay the court the amount of the bond if the defendant doesn't show up. It costs about 10% of its face value.

I think you also need a bondsman (bondsperson?) - I don't think the Courts will take (and hold) an individual's money any longer.
Some states still hold the money at the Clerk's office. Check your state. Ohio does.
