I live in New Orleans, LA. I am planning on buying a gutted home. I am interested in buying a duplex, but they are entirely to expensive!! I want to know if it is expensive to convert a single home into a double? Is it also expensive to close up a garage and use:confused: it as a bedroom. I have watched it done on tlc, but never really paid attention to the cost!

I wouldn't know the cost but buying the single home and converting it will probably be more than the duplex. Don't watch those bozos on TLC, remember it's a TV show. Its all about, wanta be actors, trying to be characters, imitating craftsmen.

You would think a single would cost more than a double but here in new orleans it isn't!! People want over 85,000 for doubles and I can get a single for probably somewhwere between 45 and 60 for the same sq ft!! So I was wanting to know if it was a whole lot more. Now the house is gutted, so the major thing I would think would be the plumbing. I don't know!! I guess I will just get some estimates before I buy the house.

It all can be done and it is all about how much $ $$$$ you have to work with!
