Wife and child on F2 visa
Hi, my wife and child are on F2 visa. I am currently working here. When trying to fill up the TaxAct software, it kept asking for my Wife and Daughters SSN. I obviously don't have it as they are on F2. What do I do?

My second questions is, how do I apply for my wife's Tax Identification Number. Also, is my daughter eligible for one? Please let me know. Thanks

First, you CANNOT file on-line, with TaxAct or with anyone, because you MUST file as a non-resident alien, filing Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ, which MUST be mailed.

Second, unless you are from one of a few select countries, you CANNOT your wife or child as dependents.

So tell me, what IS your country of origin?

Okay, India IS one of the select countries, so you CAN claim your wife and child as dependents.

You can get Forms W-7 and 1040NR from Internal Revenue Service.
