Well Missy strikes again! Never in my LIFE have a known a dog to be such a scavenger/chewer. We have gone through assortments of toys, and found those plastic dryer balls to be the only ball she could not chew, and get chunks off. Until today. She swallowed a rather large piece for her small frame. I pray it passes through! She did it right in front of me as I was pleading for her to drop it, and trying to pry it from her mouth. How long would it take for her to get sick from this if she does?

Sometime tomorrow. Make sure she has plenty of water to drink.

I called her vet, yet again! Poor woman! She said to give it till tomorrow, and most likely she will pass the piece on her own. Lets hope!

Usually a blockage leads to throwing up, diarrhea, or constipation. If you see any, get back with the vet. I would be concerned about what is in the dryer balls. It may not be good for dogs.

Look around the pet stores for sturdier balls. A lot of the stuff there is unsuitable for many dogs. The bigger the ball, the less damage a dog will do to it. I have a baseball sized solid rubber ball I think has lasted through maybe a dozen Lab puppies. They also make solid Nylaballs. They are not indestructible, but the one I had lasted until the fourth Lab puppy. Daisy was a sweet little girl, but a powerful chewer.

I am amazed at how long tennis balls last, but they require a careful eye, and pitching then when they crack. You also have to watch skinning them.

Kong makes a tough rubber ball. My Nikki can tear up and eat half a tennis ball in 2-3 minutes, it's frightening! Fortunately, she seems to pass everything (so far) within hours. A whole sock yesterday, disgusting! Good luck

Missy passed the plastic on her own, and the dryer balls are chemical free, made of the same plastic the dogs toys are made of. As for the socks.. HUGE no no... the strings can get wrapped around, or stuck, and cause major damage.. I learned that the hard way many years ago with my lab mix! Thanks for the advice!
