Have not filed in 2 years
Hi. My husband and I did not file taxes in 2005 and 2006. How do we go about filing for those two years as well as 2007? And what type of penalties do you think we'll have? We don't make much money and we have 5 children. Any information will be helpful.

First, go to both the Federal and State Revenue Departments and get copies of the forms, as well as the instructions booklets, for the years you did not file. Secondly, get all your W-2 Wage and Tax Statements together for those years.

Your next step is to complete the forms for each year either by yourself or by a tax consultant. You might want to inquire at the Feds and the State individually for free assistance in completing your back taxes. They do have advisors and tax specialists to help you complete your tax forms and/or provide advice.

I know. I worked for both the Feds and the State where I lived.

You will probably pay penalities for not filing, but arrangements can be made to pay it down on a payment schedule. Go with confidence.

... Live from your heart, you will be absolutely effective.

You will have to get the tax booklets and forms for those years either from the IRS or a tax preparer person. Chances are you won't owe any money (so there will be no penalties) having 5 kids. Gather up your W-2's, 1099's etc and go from there. File the late years as soon as you can. You'll be surprised at just how much money you will get back in the end.

Your husband must file tax return for 2005, 2006 and 2007 if he meets the filing requirements. He may even have a refund if taxes were withheld form his pay check. If he owes taxes, he will pay interest and penalty.

2005 and 2006 returns can't be filed online. It must be mailed. The previous years forms are available at:

Agreed. If the above link provided by MukatA des not work, go to Home - 1040.com for 2005 and 2006 forms.

ANY competent tax preparer has the forms for the last five years, as your situation is NOT all that unusual.
