I keep getting hair dye on my hair straightener the only other product I use on my hair before straighteneing is a protector and somehow my hair dye seems to melt off onto the plates of the straightener. What is the best way of cleaning the straightener without actually damaging the plates ?

I would assume nail polish remover 1st or rubbing alcohol. Using a non abrasive make-up pad or cloth would probably be the best way to apply the cleaner. Of course I'm a guy... And maybe way out of my league.
