1040 nr
Yes you can claim tax exeption for your wife
Need to know HOW LONG you have been in the U.S. on the H=1B?
I am here since June 2006...
For 2007, you definitely file Form 1040 or 1040A 0r 1040EZ and file jointly with your wife.
You can also file that way for 2006. If you filed Form 1040NR or 1040NR-EZ for 2006, you can amend the return using Form 1040X.
My wife doesn't have ssn nor itin. I have applied itin for her but they refused. Can I claim moving expense for her too or not.
WHY did they refuse?
Yes, you CAN claim the expense of moving her as well.
They refused because I had attached my 2006 federal return and it had not her name on it and I would like to claim her on my 2007 return. So I made a boo boo...
Shall I apply her itin along with my return with 1040nr form and all those moving return form too. Do I need to send all these notarized documents...
I am a post doctoral fellow and came here in June 2006 and got married nov 2007. My wife came with me here in USA in December 17th 2007 on h4 visa. So how can I claim her moving expense. What else benefit I can get.
For 2006 I filled 1040nr and claimed moving expenses for myself.
Which form will be the best for this year 1040 nr or 1040EZ to get maximum deductions...
For 2006, you cannot claim her becase you were NOT married on 31 December 2006.
For 2007, you CAN claim her because you were married at the end of 2007. Fill out Form W-7, staple a notarized photocopy of her passport to the W-7, then file joint using Form 1040 and paper clip the W-7/passport photocopy to the Form 1040.
You use Form 3903 to claim her moving expenses. Because you are claiming these expenses, you cannot file Form 1040EZ. You MUST file Form 1040.
