I like to know how to winterize a home that has well water,
Rayso - If you have a conventional floor, not concreteand have central heat and air and the ducts are under the house that helps a lot, What you need to do is go outside the house and walk all the way around the house checking the foundationwall and close up every hole you see and make sure your foundation vents are closed good if you see holes that the cold north , wind canget in under the house get you a can of spray fome, afgter its dry take a long butcher knife and trim it off flush, ;; now if you have out side wall faucets, and they are frost proof ,then make sure the hoses are unscrewed from he wall faucet, or otheer wise they will freeze , NOW you can buy the spray foam at Lowe's also the spray glue to use on the well house, go to the well house check all walls for openings ( FILL) ,Cut some 4" fiberglass insulation to fit snug on the inside of the well house. Don't mix up , now spray one wall with the spray glue, take the PC. Of insulation for that wall and prees it to the wall ( HURRY THE GLUE WILL DRY) Repeat on all walls and roofpaper to inside well house ,;; Some people take and wire a 110 volt lamp with a silver reflection cover use a 150 or 200 volt bulb in it ; I have for the past 10 years ,put bales of straw around the well house sides, it takes 4 on each side stacking againest the well house walls. make sure that all holes are colesed up also as the house : If you have a well house that is tall and a pump that is not a submerged pump you will have to get it insulsated also. At night WE leave the sink cabnet doors open even the bathrooms,to let heat in to the pipes, and when it gets down in the 20's we turn the hot andf cold water on to just a small stream, this also helps ,:: By the way, hot water freezes before cold does.;; I hope that I have Helped uyou with yopur questions, IF I have then rate my answer below . GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS:) :):) :D ;;; F.B.E.Quote:

To set up your water system, Shut your pump off and open up all the hot and cold faucets in the house. Now attach a hose on the boiler drain of the pressure tank at the pump and drain the water into a floor drain.(Don't forget to pour antifreeze in the floor drain trap). If you have a bladder tank connect to the lowest spot you can. Now do the same thing to your water heater. Your pump has a 1/4" drain plug at the bottom of the impeller cage. Drain that too. . Leave the faucets open when you leave. Or you can do what I did. Say good bye to those "Yankee Winters" and move to Florida. Hope this helps and thank you for rating my reply. Have a great winter, BRRRRR! TOM
