What's the best ISP? I currently have DSL service through Earthlink, but I'm wondering if cheaper ISPs provide comparible DSL service.

Best is a relative term. Without knowing what you want in an ISP its hard to suggest anything. However, since DSL service is leased from a Telco, there rarely are cheaper services. Generally DSL is just a direct connection to the Net from you to the neareast Telco Central Office. It really doesn't matter who your ISP is. However, larger ISps, do provide additional services, like antispam protection, other security features, e-mail addresses, WEB storage, etc.Quote:

I've got cable (RoadRunner).
Even if they raised their rates to $100 a month, I'd pay it. They're awsome.
Scott makes a good point. My cable company, that is my ISP, pushed me into RoadRunner, but I could have had Earthlink or AOL for the same price. Had I known then what I know now, I think I would have taken Earthlink. My son has had it elsewhere and liked it. RoadRunner is hostile to any OS other than windows, and their website is vastly over done and terribly slow. Tech service is poor. I don't any of their services because they are too much hassle. They do have an excellent spam and virus filter. Most of what gets through is their own crap. Others might not find RR the pain I do.
Still I have a great, fast connection, AMHD pages load in seconds. Best of all, I was able to tell my old phone company where they could put their telephone poles and go VOIP. I only pay about $10 a month more now for phone and internet as I did with a very poor example of dial up for great service. See www.vonage.com.
