Can anyone tell me how to the get chuck off a drill? I tried the vice grips attached to the chuck and hitting it with a hemer. Will I have to completely disassemble the thing? Thanks

Sounds like you forgot to run over the darn thing with a school bus after dropping it out of an airplane... of course my grandfather's solution would have been to use some "deenymite" on it.

Can't tell you the model # plate is gone. It's a old Black Decker, 1/4" reversible. The reversible is what got me from stopping banging on it maybe a left hand thread? Hope this helps

Open chuck compeletly, look inside, you will probably find a screw that prevents the chuck from backing off spindal when used in reverse. Remove screw. Then try removing chuck from spindle. You will probably have difficulty finding a way to hold spindle while you remove chuck. Unless it has sentimental value trash it and buy new. The last corded 3/8 drill I bought cost $19 at Home Dummies.

Chuck drills are now a thing of the past and hard to find new anymore. Just the chuckless wonders which I don't care for as they are hard to properly set the drill bit in and promptly come loose.

If you are bound and determined to remove the chuck try installing a 3/8" rod that is bent into a 90 degree L. Tighten the chuck as best you can and then strike the end of the bolt with a hammer so it spins in the opposite direct the drill turns when in forward.
