A boat travels in a direction of N40(deg) E for 3 hours at 20 mph. How far North and how far East did the boat travel?
This is basic trig. Use sine and cosine. If the boat travels 20 mph for 3 hours, how far
does it travel? Then use that and your angle to find the distances east and west.
East = distance * sin(40)
North = distance* cos(40)
You could also, if it helped you, draw the path of the boat on graph paper. This will give youa physical representation that might help you to get your mind around the math required.
