    Yeast Infection
I had a bladder infection three days ago and I took the antibiotics prescribed, and I started to feel better. The doctor said there was a chance I'd get a yeast infection afterwards, and now I believe I do. I took the medicine prescribed for this as well last night it's a pill in a dosage of one called Fluconazole. But I've had no change in symptoms, actually they seem to have gotten more obvious and bothersome. Is there something wrong? Should I be giving it more time? And is there anything I can do personally to make the process move along more effectively?

    Thank you,
    Alice Nicole.

Alice, this medication does not work immediately. If you can, go out and get some Monostat. That should help with the symptoms from the outside until the pill (also known as Diflucan) begins to work.

Call your doctor and tell him what you've said here. He may want to try a different medication for this yeast infection.

I get frequent yeast infections and I always find that monostat works better then the prescription pills. It usually comes with a cream for outside your vagina that will help with some of the symptoms until the suppository starts working.

I would suggest Monstat Day& Night, because it isn't as messy and you can use it during the day instead of suffering until bed time to put it in! Just make sure you use panty liners and call the doc if it doesn't feel better after 24 hours.

I don't know if this is myth, but I wanted to add that I have heard eating yougurt while being on antibiotics is supposed to prevent yeast infections...

My doctor says they've found Fluconazole works better with three doses so you might want to check with your doctor.

There are some things you can do to help readjust your yeast levels. Yeast is always present in the vagina (and other parts of the body) and a yeast infection occurs when it gets out of control. In this case, the antibiotic you were taking killed off the good bacteria as well as the bad upsetting the balance and giving the yeast free reign. To help re-introduce good bacteria eat at least a cup of yogurt a day (make sure that it has live active cultures particularly acidophilus.) You can also take pro-biotic (good bacteria) supplements in liquid or pill form. Most health food stores and some grocery stores carry these (even if they say they are for digestive health, if they have acidophilus they will help).

Also, yeast, feeds off sugar so cut back or eliminate refined sugars, and things that are high in natural sugar such as fruit juices and dried fruit. You don't have to go too crazy with your diet unless you are having real trouble getting rid of recurring yeast infections.

If you are still uncomfortable after a couple of days, I would contact your doctor. Always let your doctor know if you are getting frequent recurring yeast infections.

There is a lot of information online about yeast infections. Here is one site if you want more information

Okay, that is all really helpful. I've already started on the yoghurt thing, I heard that it was helpful too. And I will definitely just wait another day or so and see if the symptoms disappear. I'll look into the Monistat thing as well, thank you so much.

I've had many yeast infections and I've used the one time pill that you mentioned and it usually works right away. You should probably go to your doctor and have a swab it sounds like it could be a form of vaginosis espeacially if the discharge has an odour or is discoloured
