    Theft under
I was charged yesterday for theft under.what happened I went to the store with my baby and I bought couple of things.I did not have enough space on the top of the stroller so some of the items I put under the stroller.and when I went to the cashier to pay I paid the stuff that was on top and I forgot for this under the stroller.so I went out and a guy came to me and took me to the upper level for theft and meet the police.so they want me to go for fingerprints in feb and in court in march.that's crazy I feel so bad.should I go to a lawyer before.
It will be so pitty if they give me a criminal record for my negligence.also I'm a landed immigrant and I did apply for a canadian passport. Is it going to affect the outcome. Is it something going to affect my family. Thank you.

I think that you should talk to a lawyer, the sooner the better. I hope everything works out. I haven't ever done that, but I almost did at Walmart last week! I started to walk toward the doors and forgot about the dog food underneath the cart. Thank God I saw it in time! I think that you should get a lawyer right away. I'm not sure how it will affect the passport situation/family.

I really hope this all works out for you!

I wouldn't fool around with this, trying to take care of it yourself. I would definitely consult with an Attorney -

First thing I did the same thing three weeks ago there was something in my cart under my son and got stopped and charged. The kid that stopped me tried to make his case even better by saying he saw me take a scarf. The store had video and it showed my son taking the bottle of vitamins off the shelf. The scarf well it is still being looked into but I have about 10 statements from people that saw me with the scarf since x-mass. It was very scary and they treat you like crap. I was fingerprinted and I cried the whole time. They do your prints and your whole finger. It is really hard.
I hope that you did not make any statements to the police at all. If you did don't talk to them again. Even if they look like they are on your side. It is there job to build a case against you. It does not reflect your guilt. It is just smart. You have the right to legal aid If you qualify. If you are not shore, go to your nearest legal aid office and ask! If you do not need legal aid GET A LAWYER NOW!! What can happen is your lawyer will put it to the crown. If the crown does not feel there is a justified case they will through it out. It is up to your lawyer to help you with that. It is really hard to do that on your own my dear. There is a very good chance that it will be thrown out. How much the items were make a difference. If you do not have a record helps that is it is your first offence.
I really do understand how it happens and believe me there are a lot of mom's like you and I that this has happened to. It is hard enough to watch the youngster sometimes.
I think you will be OK. You are not likely to get a record for this offence the first time. There are a lot of options you can talk to your lawyer about if you want to keep a clean record.
    GOOD LUCK.
Let me know how you do. You can still get your passport by the way.
