Hi,

I have a valid H4 visa. Now, I want to apply for L1.

1. Does my H4 get cancelled?

2. If yes, when does it happen? When L1 gets stamped on my passport or when I go to US on L1?

3. My L1 is only anticipatory... so in case I fail to find a project to go on L1, and my H4 also got cancelled, should I apply for H4 again?

4. My passport and H4 visa are with my b4-to-marriage surname. But my office records have after-marriage surname... I don't want to change the surname in my passport for fear of losing my H4 visa validity. So if I apply for L1 with my b4-to-marriage surname, will it cause some problem, after going to US on L1, as my employer has a different surname in his records?

Me to sailing on the same boat.Have you got your L1 stamped?Is your H4 valid still?
Please let me know the problems, if you faced any during the process.

Once you enter US with L-1, H-4 will be automatically canceled.
When you're no longer on L-1, you may apply for H-4 or other visas.

You should get new passport with correct name.
Normally if you have valid visas in your passport,
The consulate will endorse those visas into your new passport.
The old passport will be returned to you when you pick up the new one.
If you are entering US as H-4 with new passport.
You have to give the immigration both passports.
