My husband is in the Military and we got his W2. The problem is that he is deployed and he got a bonus while he was over there. On his W2 it showed that amount in Box 1, and I was told it is not suppose to be there. I have already done my taxes. Is it suppose to be there, and if not what do I do? HELP!! :confused:

No, NOT in this case. When a soldier is deployed to a combat zone (I assume he is in or near Iraq), his pay (to include his bonus) is TAX-FREE.

Contact your husband's finance office and get the W-2 corrected. They will then issue you a W-2C.

You will then need to amend the tax return using Form 1040X. The Finance Office may help you with that. If not, go to the local military community center and see if they are running a Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Make sure they know how to do amendments.
