Sounds like "repeat" or repitition.
I mean the fitness term! You know in the mags. They say do 3-5 reps of sit-ups. Anyone know?!
Reps, are the number of times you do a exercise, 20 reps means you do it, 20 times.
OK thanks!
Not a problem, Hey, they just don't explain, just expect you'll know the lingo!
You do "sets" of "reps" to answer your next question ahead of time ;-)
Example: 20 situps (or reps) may be 1 set. Then they will tell you to do 3 "sets" which equals 60 reps (situps) with some form of break between each 20.
A "rep" is short term for REPETITION... which is the number of times you would repeat a COMPLETE movement.
One rep, or repetition, would be determined as forcing a muscle to work from a starting or relaxed position, to a contracted position, and then back to the starting position again. That is ONE rep, and a complete movement. So doing 5 reps would mean that you would contract and rest 5 times. The tempo at which you do these "reps" is up to you, depending on what your goals are. Typically, it only takes about 2.5 seconds to do a rep... Good luck.
Repeatative moves, i.e. over and over the same way. Curl a barbell one time it is one rep, curl it again-2nd rep, again 3rd rep and so on.Quote:
