Compaq Laptop C502US with Vista Home Issue?
Does anyone here have a Compaq Laptop with Windows Vista Home?
I have an issue with mine that just started about 3 weeks ago. I've had the laptop for almost a year now with no problems other than compatibility with older printers and programs but I was expecting that.

Now, when I start the Laptop, or, when I wake it up from sleep mode, my desktop screen appears for a few seconds, then goes black, moves my cursor to the center of the screen, flashes back to the desktop for a couple seconds, then goes black screen for a few seconds for the second time, then it works just like it should.

I am at a total loss to figure this out, HP has not been any help, their answer is to recover to factory specs, I don't want to nuke my laptop yet. I suspect it is connected to an HP Critical Update that installed just before this problem began.

Has anyone here experienced this and if so, have you figured out how to correct it?

Thanks in advance for your input.

    Hello,
I don't have an answer but I am curious about a few things (if you would like to respond). Now, my desktop does that double black screen on start up but I know, in my case, it is because my graphics card and the monitor are not at their default "native resolutions" so they have to make adjustments (eg, synchronize). As far as the sleep mode problem goes, I've never used it so I can't comment on that situation; however, it was this HP/Compaq support article that piquéd my interest in your problem: HP and Compaq Desktop PCs -  Resolving Problems with Sleep Mode in Windows Vista  If you haven't been there yet, it might be well worth a look.
