    Hello everyone. I would like to thank you in advance for your help.

    I have a friend who just purchased a toshiba regza 37" lcd TV and would like to hook it up. The problem is, he does not have a cable box. He had a cable ready TV before, and just hooked the coax cable line directly to the TV. Can this still be done? Or does he need to get a cable box? He does have a relatively new vcr and a dvd player as well.

    I have not seen this TV in person yet, so I am un-aware of all the hook ups in the back of it.

    Almost all TVs still have Coax inputs. So yes he can still use that same hookup. But really, why spring for such a nice TV and use a coax input?? That's like buying a Ferrari and only driving it to the corner store. Coax input, is not going to get the sharp, clear picture that set is capable of.

    Thank you scottgem! I'm working on getting him into this century, LOL! A little at a time I guess. But I totally agree with you. :)

    Knowing it should have a coax input will make him happy for now. He just doesn't want to pay cable more than he has to...

    I think when, he sees the coax picture as compared to what he saw in the store, he'll succumb. I just got a new 56" DLP and I split the coax so I can use the TV tuner on the non scrambled channels. I stopped doing that since the picture was so visibly worse.

    Well, seeing is believing. :) he just needs some coaxing... LOL maybe that will do it :D
