    Tracing a vote.
I'd like to vote for a pet that's in a "cutest pet contest". They say "only one vote per computer". How can they tell which computer the vote is coming from and how many times you're voting??

    Thanks to all in advance!

Once you fill out the vote form, did you fill out your email address? This identifies you with your email address. More than one email address... more than one vote.

They may save a Cookie to your computer. When you attempt to vote again, they will see that you have already voted because of the existing Cookie.

Another way to do this is to record the MAC address of your computer's network card and save it in their vote database. However, this is not one vote per person, it is really one vote per computer.

They may use a combination of the methods described but it is safe to say that at least they are trying.
