I need to replace a 30 amp, 125/250 volt socket (four prong), which is on a 60 amp breaker with a 50 amp, 250 volt socket (three prong). There is a red, white, black, and copper wire, but the 50 amp socket is three prong. Where do I put the four wires when I only have three places to put them?

I think you will need 2 #6's, 1 #8 for neutral, and #10 for ground.
If this is a range and Not new construction or remodel, you may? Be able to use 3 wires.

I don't know what those numbers mean, but to answer your question... it's for a kiln. The four wires are already there and attached to the 30 amp outlet. I need to replace that outlet with a three-prong 50 amp outlet. I need to know where on the outlet to attach each of the wires.

The #6 wire is a little larger than a pencil and is needed to handle to handle the 50 Amps, and will need a #10 for a ground.
The 30 Amp receptacle should not be on a 60 Amp breaker, However if the wires are #6, then replace breaker and receptacle to 50 amps. The Neutral may not be needed in this case and can be capped off in receptacle box.
