Second, The only really applicable answer here is Mr Yet's. I don't believe any of the rest of the answerers are labor lawyers, so their answers are more speculation, since they don't know the company policies.

As in any matter of law, your best bet is consulting an attorney who is familiar with the situation.

All of the answers were good and thought out well genuine people who wanted to give courteous advice, whether a person believes in the person answering the question is not relevant it is the person who asked the question who matters, Well done to all who took the time to answer the question. This is what this board is all about.

Not wanting to cause a rift between you and I- but to point out in a positve way all our answers count and help to assist the one asking. You are right we may not know the companies policy, but as a rule we do know for sure which obides to any company that a written contract signed by both parties concerned is needed.

I only have a verbal contract with my employer - I have been working with them now for nearly a year. If I decided to leave I could give a weeks notice (even though I am paid monthly and would drop them right in it) there is nothing they could do to stop me because we only have a verbal agreement and I was never asked to agree to giving any kind of notice before leaving. I am not bound to anything with this company and if they tried to take action against me for anything it would be my word against theirs. They are still a relatively new company and certain things are being addressed so I may be given a contract at some point but even so, no contract, so they can't do anything without my agreement.

Sorry, but I don't agree. Bad or incorrect advice (like Fred gave) is NOT helpful (BTW, I meant to disagree there, but forgot to hit the button after commenting).

What this board is about is giving correct answers and good advice. Certain questions require technical knowledge before one should answer. Too many people here are just piling on answers to enhance their point totals. Some of the answers here, either referred to specific experiences. However, they may or may not have applied to the OP's specific situation.

This board is NOT about people throwing answers around wherever they can. Its about providing accurate and concrete help to questions. People should NOT be answering questions they have no expertise in.

The only answers that count are ones that are accurate and correct. Answers that relate a personal experience may be valuable but only if they apply to the problem. Answers that are wrong need to be labeled that way.

Not being funny - but you are like a running record! I am really offended to think you are saying the advice I am giving is bad. It is correct knowledge - maybe a bit thin - but I am trying to help which I thought was the point of this website. My advice is not bad nor incorrect; ut something that others can elaberate on to also help. Why do you have to undermine everyone! - you are not always right - you are going to have to learn to accept that sometimes you are wrong - no one condems you for being wrong. Why be argumentative and make me feel so small.

If you feel that I said your advice was bad, then you aren't reading what I've been saying. There was only one response in this thread that was bad and it wasn't yours. I do believe that some of the responses should not have been made because of a lack of technical knowledge, but that doesn't mean they were bad advice.

However, now I am getting offended. You accuse me, falsely, of trying to "undermine everyone". The only thing I am trying to "undermine" is bad advice. How many posts have I made that attempt to undermine anyone? Now compare that to the number of posts I make that help people! And then try and tell me I am trying to "undermine everyone".

Nor do I think I am always right. However, I take a good deal of care in formulating answers and deciding what position to take on an issue. I base my positions on verifiable facts and logic. Because of that, my track record on being right is pretty good. That doesn't mean I'm not open to someone proving to me I was wrong. Iv'e been wrong about things in the past, I'll be wrong about things in the future. When proven wrong I will admit and acknowledge my error. Unlike certain people here (I'm not referring to you), that slink away when proven wrong instead of owning up to it.

Scottgem - you are not in a position to judge people or their advice. Everyone's advice is valid and it's up to the one asking the question to make up their own minds. People don't necessarily come here looking for specific answers, they are just turning to people for more insight, for a chance to get it off their chest and feel better about themselves or the situation they face.

If someone comes in here abusing everone and causing trouble - then yes they are wrong; and we should put them straight.

But if someone offers advice from their own understanding, knowledge and personal experience it is not on for someone to criticize them and make them feel so small. Just because you see them as incorrect does not mean everone else does.

It would appear that some body has set themselves up as THE JUDGE as they don't seem to have nothing better to do with their time other than down rate everybody else. Oh by the way just for the record I have my own investigation Company called Hawk Investigations and my answer contained part of a passage from the one of our business law books however I did state there could be differences in these Laws as I work within the Legal statutes of the United Kingdom. Agree or disagree no problem but don't be rude and demean others after all Some of us are actually an expert in some fields and use common sense alongside knowledge.

First, I resent your implication that I "down rate everybody else". That is totally false. I will down rate answers that I am sure are incorrect or are bad advice. But if you review my activity on this or any Q&A site, you will see that is the exception not the rule.

As for your answer, I had not previously said anything specifically about your answer. There was one answer I criticized and I stand by that criticism. I demeaned the answer not the answerer. The answer was dead wrong and it was given by someone who is not a legal specialist.

Finally, I also resent your you attack against me personally, with your remark about petty comments. I could report that attack, but I prefer to defend myself then censor. You are either not aware of the facts or choose to ignore them. The rules of this site prevent me from presenting the facts publicly. If you are interested I would be glad to present them via PM.
